Sentosa Cable Car

Overview

The Sentosa Cable Car is a man-made attraction (for tourism) that consists of two exciting cable car lines – Faber Peak Singapore and Sentosa. Sentosa Cable Car will take guests through the journey over sea, jungles, and skyscrapers. In addition, guests will be able to view multiple attractions situated on Sentosa island. Such as, Resorts World Sentosa’s Adventure Cove, and Universal Studios Singapore.

Taking a closer look at the attraction product, the core product of Sentosa Cable Car can include the ambience when one is high up in the sky looking down, and travelling from one location to another. The tangible products include the actual ride and Singapore Cable Car merchandises. Lastly, Augmented products can include excellent service provided by attractions staff, gift shop, and easy access my public transport.

Offerings and Programmes

View from Sentosa Line
The Singapore Cable Car has two lines, namely the Mount Faber Line and Sentosa Line. Both lines offer a distinct experience to its riders. The Mount Faber Line offers breath-taking views above the hill from Faber Peak Singapore and allow riders to pass through a skyscraper before revealing Sentosa Island right before them. As for the Sentosa Line, you will be able to see hotels, beautiful beaches and the world-famous attractions that Sentosa has to offer, all from a magnificent bird’s eye view.

Besides its cable car lines and marvelous restaurant offerings such as Spuds & Apron by Faber Peak Singapore, how about combining those two into a unique and memorable experience? ‘Dining on Cloud 9’ offers just that. Guests will be able to enjoy a romantic 4-course meal while enjoying the scenic views from their own private cable car cabin.

Prices

Cable Car Sky Pass (Round Trip): $33 (adult), $22 (child)
Mount Faber Line Price: $29 (adult), $18 (child)
Sentosa Line Price: $13 (adult), $8 (child)

The most common pricing structure adopted by Sentosa Cable Car is product bundling. Product bundling is done by tying in the cable car attractions with other attractions and sell it at a discounted price. One example would be the ‘Triple Attractions Package’ where Sentosa Cable Car, S.E.A Aquarium, and Universal Studios Singapore are sold altogether as a package at a discounted price. This solves the problem of perishability. Once the package is bought, it does not matter if the guest visits the attraction or not, as they have already paid for it. Also by bundling products, consumers appreciate the simplification of the buying process (augmented product), and they benefit from the combined performance of the joint product.

One rather interesting pricing was the ‘Evening Rider’ discount. After 6pm daily, adult riders only need to pay the same price as a child to ride the cable car. This also helps to ease the problem of perishability as most people may not ride the cable cars after sundown.

Sentosa Merlion

Overview

The Sentosa Merlion is a 37-metre-tall concrete Merlion situated on Sentosa Island. The Merlion is a creature from the myths and legends that acts as a guardian of prosperity and its body parts symbolises early Singapore as ‘sea-town’. What is so special about the Sentosa Merlion is that it remains the only Merlion in Singapore where visitors can enter and explore the urban legend, and also enjoy amazing views from both its mouth and head viewing galleries.

The Merlion being a creature filled with rich and intriguing stories surrounding it, its boils down to its core product being history and mystery as there is so much to uncover and learn from the stories behind the design and meaning of the magnificent creature. Tangible products include the actual Merlion tower, prosperity bell and coin, and the actual view from the mouth and top of the Merlion. Lastly, augmented products include the café and gift shop, easy to access location from all parts of Sentosa, and photo taking services provided by the lovely service staff.

Offerings and Programmes

For the main activities at the Merlion, there are two viewing locations, the mouth and the head of the Merlion, where guests will be able to see whats the entire Sentosa island at one glance. In addition, guests are given a card upon entry, where they can use the card to insert into a mini Merlion’s mouth for a prosperity coin in return, which serves as a memento for the guests to bring home. Also, at the Merlion’s mouth, there is a prosperity bell where guests can make wishes, before striking the bell for both good luck and well wishes.

Similar to many other Sentosa Island attractions, the Sentosa Merlion also makes use of product bundling. The Sentosa Merlion is part of the Sentosa 'Fun Pass', where guests can redeem different attractions tickets with their limited 'credits' that they purchased under the Fun Pass.

In addition, The Sentosa Merlion Cafe has an promotion for guests where they are entitled to one free cup of coffee with the purchase of a ticket to Sentosa Merlion. The purpose of doing so is to create the perception of additional value among consumers, making them more willing to purchase the Sentosa Merlion ticket.

Wings of Time

Wings of Time is the unique to its own as they are the only permanent night show in the world that is set in the open sea. An epic multi-sensory show, brought to life by multimedia effects, state-of-the-art robotic water fountains and lasers, also not forgetting pyrotechnics Audiences can expect an experience that is both magnificently breath-taking and educational to kids at the same time. Wings of Time tells a story of courage and how the main characters journey through different ages of time in a manner that will captivate each and every guest, and allow everyone to have a memorable time.

Core product of Wings of Time can be its grandness and photo worthy show. Tangible products include the actual show, and augmented products include its easy access to the tram services on Sentosa and also other F&B outlets.

Besides two shows every night at Siloso Beach, there are multiple food kiosks located right outside the show venue to make sure no guest have to go in hungry! Guests will be able to purchase food and drinks from pushcarts.

Prices

$18 (adult), $23 (premium)

Similar to many other Sentosa Island attractions, the Sentosa Merlion also makes use of product bundling such as Sentosa 'Fun Pass'. However, I would like to mention the $23 premium seat pricing. A premium seat choice is offered and it targets guests who see do not mind paying a few extra dollars for a better seat that is located in the middle of the stage. This show psychological pricing as it relates to the guests psychological aspects and how they perceive prestige.

Pre-Visit Engagement With Attraction

There were multiple ways in which the attractions engaged with the audience before the visit. The most notable and obvious one would be through their official websites. Engagements include helping guest plan their visit by informing them relevant information such as how to get there and where are the nearest F&B outlets.

Also, guests will able be able to have a mini teaser of what the attraction has to offer. This is done by viewing gallery images uploaded on the attractions official website.
