My Sentosa Attractions Experience!

Sentosa Cable Car

As someone who has never taken the Singapore Cable Car or any cable car, it was certainly a brand-new experience for me. Hence one of its greatest appeal would be the cable car serves as a first experience to me. Also, there are no other ways where you can enjoy such beautiful views of Sentosa Island, other than from the cable car ride.

The service was smooth and the service staff were pleasant and considerate. One point I would like to praise the cable car is the amount of detail put into the design of the cable car. The fact that there were holders at the side of the cabin for guests to place their drinks in was very thoughtful commendable. In addition, the cable car was clean of any obvious dirt and stains that could affect the ride experience.

During one of the cable car rides, there was another tourist in the cabin with me. He seemed really into the views surrounding him and took multiple pictures. In my opinion, there is only so much a cable car can engage its visitors, and I feel the Singapore Cable Car did a fantastic job by providing exceptional service to make sure tangible and augmented products were done well enough to allow guests to have an enjoyable time.

As I have never been to Adventure Cove at Resorts World Sentosa, being able to see it from the top really excited me and made me interested in visiting it one day. Also, first time viewing the entire island from the top sure makes a special experience. However, one slight disappointment was that I wished the cabin had a see-through bottom which would have really got me even more excited. My friends who were with me in the same cabin felt similarly too. Such an enhancement to the ride will really increase the appeal of the cable car ride to both locals and tourists.

Sentosa Merlion

The greatest and main appeal of the Merlion would have to be its history and mythical aspects. Especially to tourists who do not have a single clue as to what the Merlion is all about, there is a sense of curiosity that they would want to satisfy and learn more about the mythical creature.

As someone who knows the origins of the Merlion, I was not particularly intriguied. However, I was still impressed by how they managed to sell on the mythical aspects creatively. Guest would be first let through a small gallery with drawings of mythical creatures and monsters such as the mermaid, followed by a short video screening about the history of the Merlion. After watching the video, guests would have had a background of the Merlion, which causes them to appreciate the creature more, enhancing the experience. Additionally, the prosperity coin is a very smart move by the attraction as it gives both a perception of value to the guest (free stuff), and also a memento to bring home to remind the guests of the memorable time they had at the Sentosa Merlion.

Rawr like the Merlion!

Out of all the attractions, I would classify the Sentosa Merlion as the most engaging. Besides the prosperity coin memento, guests are able to ring the prosperity bell after making a wish at mouth of the Merlion. The service staff at the Merlion’s mouth was also exceptionally engaging and polite. He offered to take photos for guests using the guest’s own camera/phone, before using his own camera to take photos for the front counter. It was also interesting that he got guests to do some actions such as posing like the Merlion and rawring, which really enhanced the overall experience of the Merlion.

Friendly and helpful staff

That being said, I was in fact underwhelmed by the Sentosa Merlion overall. It was the views that got my excited in the first place. However, they did not live up to my expectations. The view was significantly lacking as compared to from the cable car. This could be due to my expectations set too high after being to the cable car and when they were not met, the experience became not so pleasant. 

Wings of Time

The most appealing part of Wings of Time would be its novelty factor. Being the only night show in the world that is against the open sea, it creates a sense of originality and uniqueness to its guests.

There were multiple entrances for Wings of Time which corresponds to the section of your ticket. However, only one section was easily visible to the public, which can be difficult for some guests to find the entrance to their section. However, the service staff was extremely helpful and provided assistance. The show was something that I had never seen before in my life and was truly phenomenal. It lived up to every expectation of mine and more.

The way the attraction engages the audience was through the design of its show. Other than its grand laser and lighting sequences, there were use of water fountains and pyrotechnics that were very close to the audience. This created an additional factor of thrill as I could feel the heat from the fire and splashes from the water fountain. It made me feel as if I was part of the show.

Overall, I was impressed by the show. However, it will not impress me again if I ever choose to visit. The same trick just does not work the second time around. At some point, the show has to reinvent itself be having a new story-line and show. If not, repeated visits from both locals and overseas tourists will drop as time passes.
